DENVER – Many of Colorado’s law enforcement agencies on Monday offered condolences and words of encouragement to their fellow departments nationwide as four officers were shot across the country Sunday.

San Antonio Officer Benjamin Marconi, 50, was shot and killed while performing a traffic stop outside of police headquarters late Sunday morning.

A St. Louis police sergeant was shot twice in the face while he sat in traffic and remained in critical condition as of Monday morning.

Chiefs of both departments said the officers were targeted in both attacks.

In Gladstone, Missouri – outside of Kansas City – an officer was shot before the suspect was shot and killed, and a Sanibel, Florida officer was shot during a traffic stop and treated at the scene.

Several law enforcement agencies from Colorado sent messages to the departments affected, offering words of grief and hope.

Several law enforcement agents have been targeted by gunmen across America this year, including in Dallas, where five officers were killed in July.

Those officers were working a rally organized to protest the police killings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.
