Grocery workers extend contract temporarily

Posted

Unionized grocery workers in the Denver metro area have voted to temporarily extend their current contract while negotiations continue.

Labor contracts with King Soopers, City Market, Safeway and Albertsons were set to expire Saturday.

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7 says the major issues in this contract are wages, health insurance, pension and the elimination of a two-tier pay and benefit system.

UFCW said the next bargaining sessions are September 21 for King Soopers/City Market and September 22 for Safeway/Albertsons.

UFCW represents about 20,000 grocery workers in Colorado.
