ELIZABETH, Colo. — In Elbert County, Elizabeth Fire Chief TJ Steck said they’ve been kept busy, and not only because of the coronavirus.

"Even though this whole issue is going on, we still have people who have chest pains and strokes and trauma victims that we have to take care of," Steck said.

While at the same time, Steck said he is seeing a decrease in crucial supplies.

"Our stations are running out of paper towels and toilet paper," Steck said. "There’s a shortage of protective equipment all over the place."

Luckily, Steck said some people in the community are stepping up to help.

"Local vendors have been bringing wipes to us, paper towels, things that are shortages for everyday business or everyday business, we’re seeing the same shortages," Steck said.

Elizabeth dentist Aaron Goodman said he also decided to donate surgical gowns to the fire department after his surgeries were postponed.

"My dad was always a good example for me," Goodman said. "He was always doing stuff for the community and if anyone ever needed help he was the first one to help them and I try to be like my dad."

There are still ways you can help if you want to participate in volunteer opportunities for the coronavirus.
