DENVER --  City officials announced plans Thursday detailing the proposed $233 million expansion of the Colorado Convention Center.

The proposed expansion will include multi-function meeting spaces and a 50,000 sq. ft. outdoor terrace., where convention goers will have an unobstructed view of the Rocky Mountains. The project also includes plans to modify several lobbies.

Officials said the expansion to the convention center and additional marketing would generate 25 more conventions a year and bring an $85 million annual economic benefit.

The money for the project comes from a 2015 voter-approved tax extension. Additional funds will come from a proposed Tourism Improvement District, in which the Denver City Council will begin considering next week.

A timeline for the project was not released, but recent reports suggest officials hope to complete the expansion in the next two years.
