DENVER, Colo. — During the pandemic, we are all looking for ways to positively impact our communities and support businesses with a bigger meaning behind them.

Meet False Ego, a Denver-made street wear company that stands for so much more than fashion.

The man who founded the company, Jevon Taylor, was a college basketball player, then graphic designer, and has now rolled his passion and creativity into the community-based clothing line called False Ego.

“I think our ‘false ego’ is something that makes it hard for us to connect with anything outside of ourselves," Taylor said. “And, this is what the work is all about. It's about really connecting with the world around us, and people around us, the environment.”

He routinely volunteers at urban farms like Sister Gardens near Regis University and Majestic View Nature Center in Arvada.

And, this work in the garden only supports his company's greater mission as a platform for environmental initiatives.

All of his clothing is designed and made in Colorado from sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, reworked denim, and regenerated nylon.

“(I) really started learning about the environment,” he said. “The environmental impact fashion as the second leading polluter in the world behind gas and oil. And, me, just wanting to make a difference.”

The False Ego logos are subtle, but the company’s impact is huge.

Taylor said he hopes to eventually take the False Ego brand into schools with curriculum on how we consume, as people.

“We, as consumers, hold a lot of power,” he said. “I really want to educate people on the power consumers hold, and how we vote with our dollars.”

And, he wants to teach our youth how everything from food to clothing to culture weaves together.

“I think especially in Colorado, it's shown people can come together for a common purpose and share the same mind set, share same ideas, share empathy, share love, share enlightenment with people," Taylor said. "And that's what the brand is all about.”
