Colorado-based space company to build satellites at MSU Denver

DENVER – Students at Metropolitan State University of Denver will soon have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the aerospace industry.

Denver-based York Space Systems announced it’s teaming up with MSU Denver to establish a new satellite manufacturing facility and control center on campus. The facility will be located in MSU’s new Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building, which opens later this year.

York Space Systems plans to house its full engineering and design team at MSU, in addition to production and mission operations. The facility will be capable of producing as many as 150 to 200 satellites every year.

Having York on campus will provide work and internship opportunities for students looking to enter the aerospace industry and university officials said they’re looking forward to the private-public partnership.

"It is truly exciting to imagine our students working alongside York's engineers on the design and construction of satellites that'll be launched into space and, on top of that, having them participate in the on orbit control of the satellites they helped build. And, this will all be happening right on Campus,” said Robert Park, Ph.D., Director of MSU Denver’s Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute.

MSU Denver’s Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building is expected to open in the summer.
