DENVER (AP) — A Colorado rock band named for a term referencing police violence has changed the group's title because one of its members is also a law enforcement officer.
The Denver Post reported Monday that Alley Ride dropped its name after the Denver officer informed city police officials, who recommended the name should be changed.
The newspaper says that in urban culture an "alley ride" refers to police driving suspects to an alley and beating them instead of taking them to jail, or officers driving young people into rival gang territory and leaving them to fend for themselves.
The Post says social media posts indicate the group has changed its name to Devils Causeway Band.
The paper says the group debuted in December and covers classic rock songs.
