A 22-year-old climber who was climbing without any protective equipment was found dead Sunday morning by two hikers, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.
The man was apparently climbing the rock formation known as the Fifth Pinnacle on Saturday when he fell approximately 100 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The man told a friend on Saturday that he was going to climb the Chautauqua area and would be back in the evening. When he didn't return, he was reported missing on Sunday.
A search was just about to be launched Sunday morning when two hikers found his body at 11:30 a.m.
Deputies were dispatched to the Gregory Canyon trailhead as well as Boulder Open Space Mountain Park Rangers, AMR Ambulance, Rocky Mountain Rescue and the Boulder County Coroner.
The coroner's office may release the man's name after his identity has been confirmed and his family have been notified.
