DENVER – The Denver City Council gave the green light Monday to a controversial music festival at a historic golf course.

Monday’s vote paves the way for a planned three-day festival at Overland Golf Course off South Santa Fe Drive in south Denver. AEG and Superfly are organizers of the event.

The festival is expected to draw upwards of 30,000 people per day and feature a still-unannounced lineup of artists performing on multiple stages.

Many who live near the golf course have been fighting the proposed festival over concerns it will cause major disruptions in and around the neighborhood, not to mention the possible damage to the more than 100-year-old course, they contend.

But Overland officials said the festival would help the organization balance its budget, and neighbors would also have access to a 24-hour hotline where they could call in concerns about parking or other impacts.

The council approved a five-year contract with Superfly and AEG, which will require them to provide a transportation and parking plan for the event. The festival is scheduled to begin the fall of next year.
