LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- In the wake of numerous sexual harassment scandals involving elected officials, Lakewood now has a policy to deal with those allegations.

Earlier this week, city council adopted a resolution to update its harassment policy. Lakewood previously did not have any procedure for dealing with these kinds of complaints against government officials.

Denver has been slower to react even though its own mayor was accused of sexual harassment. City Council President Albus Brooks said a council working group is drafting language for a similar policy and that group will report back next month.

Denver7 Investigates was the first to report inappropriate comments made by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to a female police detective. The mayor apologized but stopped short of calling the incident sexual harassment. At the time, city council said it could not take action against the mayor.
