16 DUI arrests while cops offered safe rides

Posted

During a period when Aurora Police were offering safe rides home, 16 drivers were arrested for DUI.

The Choose Your Ride operation was conducted Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

During that time, four people requested a free, safe ride home.

During the same time period, 16 drivers were arrested for DUI or DUI-D (driving under the influence of drugs) by Aurora Police officers not involved in the operation.

Of those 16 arrests, two were felonies due to the driver having more than three prior convictions for DUI or DUI-D, police said.

The A.P.D. Traffic Section considers this operation a success, especially for a first attempt.
