GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — Most Cherry Creek Schools will return back for the start of the school year on Monday with a shift in start times.

This change is years in the making for the Cherry Creek School District. Over the years, committee members looked closely at studies and statistics to plan out a change in start times aiming to benefit students' health and success in school.

The first bells will ring at elementary schools starting at 8 a.m. this year. High schoolers will be the next in line at 8:20 a.m. with an extra hour of sleep compared to years in the past. Middle schoolers are the last to start at 8:50 a.m.

"Their emotional and psychological health. I think that we will see healthier students and that's probably what I am most excited about," said Cherry Creek High School Principal Ryan Silva.
