CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — A Chaffee County woman is missing after a neighbor said she went out for a bike ride Sunday and never returned, sparking a search involving more than 100 emergency personnel.

The Chaffee County Communications Center received a report on Sunday at 5:46 p.m. regarding a missing woman in the area of County Road 225 and West Highway 50.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and talked with the person who had reported the woman missing. The person said a neighbor, Suzanne Morphew, 49, from the Maysville area, had gone for a bike ride in the area and hadn’t returned, according to the sheriff’s office. Maysville is about 3.2 miles east of County Road 225 along West Highway 50.

The sheriff’s office called for help from the Chaffee County Search and Rescue (from both the south and north part of the county) and all parties began searching for Morphew.

The Department of Corrections also responded and joined the search with tracking dogs, according to the sheriff’s office.

The group — which included more than 100 personnel — continued into early Monday morning before pausing. The search resumed later that morning. On Monday morning, the county tactical team was called in to help too.

Morphew had not been located by the late afternoon Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Anybody who has information on Morphew’s whereabouts is asked to call the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office at 719-539-2596 or Chaffee County Crime Stoppers at 719-539-2599.
