CDOT prepping for Blizzard Warning

CDOT is preparing for another blast of snow and says people can track its snowplows in real time.

"The first question we will get is 'Where are the plows,'" said Amy Ford, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation. "Now, they can track them on-line in the Denver Metro, which direction they are going and how fast."

Ford said CDOT trucks have systems that also track the weather, allowing them to know what de-icer to apply and how much.

"What we’ll use when we have sort of the heat like what we’ve been having is more of a liquid de icer," said Ford, who said when it comes to pre-treating the roads, timing is everything. "We don’t do it too soon, as it can actually make roads a little too slick. We don’t do it too late because then it has no affect. So you hit it right in that system."

Ford said CDOT will start the extended snow shift as soon as the storm starts moving in.
