DENVER – A carjacking suspect is in custody after crashing the stolen vehicle while trying to elude officers, police said Wednesday.

Denver police said the incident began with an armed carjacking at 28th and Federal Boulevard.

Officers responded and pursued the suspect as he drove at speeds as high as 90 miles per hour. The suspect eventually crashed into a light pole at Amherst and Federal, police said.

Police took the suspect into custody and then transported him to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police said were serious but not life-threatening. Officers recovered a gun from the vehicle.

There were no other reports of injuries associated with the crash.
