Candice Lampley sentenced in son's burning death

DENVER — A Denver mother, who pleaded guilty to the burning death of her 23-month-old son, was sentenced Thursday.

A judge gave Candice Lampley, 30, to 25 years in prison. She pleaded guilty earlier to child abuse resulting in the death of Javion Johnson.

Javion was dropped off at a Denver hospital emergency room July of last year. He died from injuries sustained while in the care of Lampley and her boyfriend, Delonta Crank, 37.

Medical staff found burns across Javion’s body and blood in one ear, an affidavit states. The boy suffered burns around the time of a bath that "may be consistent with [him] being placed in scalding hot water.”

The autopsy report found thermal injuries, or burns, covering 15 percent of the child's skin.

Crank is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. He has pleaded not guilty.
