A Glenwood Springs man has been accused of trying to kill his wife by keeping her in a running car in their closed garage.
The Post Independent reports that Byron Gardner, 41, appeared in court Monday on charges of attempted murder and child abuse.
According to court documents, Gardner believed his wife was leaving him so he served her tea with a ground up sleeping pill. He then took her to the garage, where he led her to the running SUV. Police found the garage door was closed and a towel was at the base of the main door. When his wife tried to leave the car he restrained her.
Defense attorney Jason Jovanovich, who is not formally Gardner's attorney but had been contacted by the family, says the man suffers from a mental illness.
