Budweiser Clydesdales coming to Colorado Capitol Monday

DENVER — The Budweiser Clydesdales are visiting the Colorado Capitol on Monday to celebrate the repeal of the state’s Prohibition-era beer laws.

Eight horses will be hitched to the red beer wagon near the west steps of the statehouse at 2 p.m. Monday to celebrate how, on Jan. 1., the prohibition-era beer law that prevented the sale of beer greater than 3.2 percent alcohol by weight in most Colorado grocery and convenience stores will dissolve.

In 2016, the Colorado General assembly passed SB-197, which paved the way to expand ownership of liquor licenses. Part of that bill also stipulated that 3.2 beer would be phased out on Jan. 1, 2019. This year, the legislature followed up with a bill related to full-strength beer sales.

At the Colorado Capitol event, Senate Minority Leader Chris Holbert, State Representative Daneya Esgar, Anheuser-Busch Regional Vice President Greg Sollazzo and others will address how the expansion of full-strength beer sales to grocery and convenience stores will increase choice and convenience for Colorado beer drinkers.
