ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. – A brush fire sparked in northeastern Elbert County Monday morning amid heightened fire danger in eastern Colorado.
Elbert County fire crews and sheriff’s deputies have responded to the fire, which has been dubbed the Bradberry Fire and is located near the Chaparral Valley neighborhood at Comanche Creek Road and County Road 166.
The fire grew quickly to between 200 and 300 acres by just after noon, but is not threatening any structures, according to the sheriff's office.
The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says road and bridge crews are working to cut fire lines with road equipment.
High winds are expected to blow in to the Eastern Plains throughout Monday ahead of an incoming cold front, creating hazardous fire conditions as the wind mixes with dry conditions.
