DENVER -- Police believe a truck thief abandoned a 3-month-old baby in a Denver alley. The baby was inside a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was stolen out of Brighton Tuesday around 2:30 p.m.
Although the baby is safe, investigators are still looking for the suspect.
About two hours after the truck was stolen, a man found the baby boy in the alley behind his home in the 700 block of N Raleigh Street. Nasario Arellano went outside to bring his garbage can in when someone walking by alerted him to the baby.
"I guess I was out there at the right time," said Arellano.
Arellano, a father of five and grandfather to 13, took the baby inside and called 911.
The truck Is a 2011 Red Ford F-150 with a red camper shell. The vehicle's license plate is believed to be 970-PQY. It was found in Lakewood shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The truck was stolen from a business in Brighton but police have not said how someone managed to steal the truck with the baby inside.
The vehicle was seen moving southbound on Highway 85 at 1230th, but some residents also spotted it in the Denver neighborhood where the 3-month-old was found.
"He was coming fast and then I seen him park at the turnaround cause he couldn’t get through the park and then I heard him go through the alley and then he sped up the alley," said Lisa Hernandez, a neighbor who lives across the street from Arellano.
Police are asking for anybody with information about the stolen truck to call 911 immediately.
