BRIGHTON, Colo. — An aquatic park in Brighton closed its leisure pool after fecal matter was found in the water, but will reopen at a normal time Thursday.

On Wednesday, the city of Brighton said the cleaning process has started at the Brighton Oasis Aquatic Park. The park is following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to clean the pool. The lazy river and water slides remained open.

The city said two staff members stayed overnight to clean up the pool, so it will open at the normal time of 11 a.m. Thursday.

Janelle McPherson, spokesperson for the city of Brighton, said a child had diarrhea while in the pool.

This was the first time in seven years they had to close the pool, she said.

One in eight public pools, hot tubs and water playground has to close each year due to health hazards or excessively dirty water, according to the CDC.
