Ski towns prep for holiday tourists and snow

Posted

Even more snow is on the way for the mountains and it's just in time for holiday tourists. Drivers making their way to the high country could be met with a winter storm that's forecasted to drop up to three feet of snow.

Snow began falling Monday night near the Eisenhower Tunnel. Ski towns are prepping for even more snow and working to make sure routes are clear as visitors make their way there.

The Town of Breckenridge has plows running around the clock and police are on standby for the storm.

"We’ve already sent notices out to all of the staff that say hey you know we’re expecting a winter storm warning so be prepared, so some people you know that they might be on call if we have to bring extra workers in," said Kim Dykstra with the Town of Breckenridge.

CDOT plows were out Monday night along the I-70 mountain corridor. 40 plows will be serving the area in anticipation of heavy snow. Plow drivers also pretreated roads, monitoring conditions and keeping a close eye of below freezing temperatures.

"We’ll get the streets and the sidewalks plowed and the snow removed, we just ask people to be patient this time of year," said Dykstra.
