SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — A 27-year-old from Breckenridge was sentenced on Monday to four years in prison for assaulting a police officer.
On the evening of Oct. 15, 2017, Dillon police found James Morrow lying on the street and mumbling. He started to behave aggressively and hit a sergeant as she tried to arrest him. He hit a second officer and started “wildly kicking and throwing punches,” according to a press release from the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
After his arrest, Morrow told police had had been huffing paint and was on ketamine, which is a Schedule III controlled substance.
The injured sergeant had several surgeries and now has physical limitations that are life-long and career-ending, according to the DA’s office.
Morrow pleaded guilty on Nov. 5, 2018 to second-degree assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
“Justice in our community means severe consequences for people who strike at those whose job is to protect us all,” said District Attorney Bruce Brown. “Violence against men and women of law enforcement is out of hand, and must end.”
