Authorities in southern Colorado are investigating after they say a 9-year-old boy was shot in the head Monday afternoon by his little brother.
Trinidad police say the shooting happened after the two children found a handgun in a parked vehicle they were in.
The 9-year-old was struck after the firearm discharged while in the hands of his 8-year-old brother, investigators say.
The boys were in the care of family friend while their parents attended a medical appointment when the shooting happened.
The boy was rushed to Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad and then flown via Flight for Life to Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora where he remains in critical condition.
