BOULDER, Colo. — Police are on the lookout for a young man who’s accused of inappropriately touching a female runner Monday morning, and then robbing her.

The Boulder Police Department said it is investigating a robbery and unlawful sexual contact that occurred Monday around 5:45 a.m. on a footpath in North Boulder.

A woman was running through a neighborhood on Vinca Court near Spotswood Place when a man rode past her on a bicycle and hit her behind. The man rode a short distance, dismounted and grabbed the woman in a bear hug. She screamed for help while struggling and the man touched her inappropriately.

The runner was able to keep him from pushing her to the ground. The suspect grabbed her phone and fled eastbound toward 26th Street on the bicycle.

A neighbor heard the woman yelling and went outside to help her.

Police said the woman described the suspect as a Hispanic male, between 20 and 25 years old, about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing between 195 and 200 pounds. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt and black cargo pants. His bike was a black BMX-style bike with red grips or handlebars.

Boulder police increased patrols in the area of the crime.
