DETROIT – A Boulder firefighter injured in June when he was thrown dozens of feet in the air by an overstretched hose received $20,000 from OnStar Tuesday.
The company is celebrating its 20th anniversary by giving away $20,000 apiece to 20 different public safety workers injured while on duty.
Boulder firefighter Tom Albert, who has been with Boulder Fire for 19 years, was one of the recipients. Currently an engineer with the department, Albert also trains other firefighters and works on the Dive Rescue and Swift Water Rescue Team.
Albert was injured when a hose line from his engine was stretched too far during a training exercise. He was thrown more than 30 feet into the air and fell to the street, suffering injuries to his head, spine, legs and lungs.
“The first responder community plays a vital role in working with OnStar advisors to quickly deliver emergency services to our drivers and passengers in need,” said OnStar COO Christine Sitek in a news release.
