PARKER, Colo. — Roughly 45 people were evacuated Friday afternoon after a person reported a suspicious item in the bathroom of a Parker Road McDonald's restaurant.

Officials say the bomb squad rushed to the scene after calls rang out before 1 p.m. about the package. Despite the evacuation, no roads are closed and police are keeping the perimeter small.

Police cautioned residents and travelers to stay away from the scene, but said they called in the bomb squad in an abundance of caution.

At around 3:55 p.m., the Parker Police Department tweeted that the bomb squad believed that the package was "not going to be a danger."

The scene was declared safe about 4:05 p.m.

Denver7 photojournalist Brad Bogott was told at the scene there could be criminal charges based on the items found at the site, as it looked like the items found were intended to cause alarm in the community.
