An unclaimed backpack led to the evacuation of a school in Denver on Monday.
Denver Public Schools said MLK Junior Early College was evacuated after a report of a suspicious item on campus. That item was a backpack.
Officials said no students or staff claimed the backpack, so the staff called Denver police. Police called out the bomb squad to the school at 19535 East 46th Avenue in Denver.
Officers checked the backpack, found a thermos inside, but said there was no threat.
Officials said the students and staff were safe and dismissal would be at the normal time -- 2:45 p.m.
The school's website says it serves college-bound students in grades 6 through 12. The Early College partners with the Community College of Aurora to offer tuition-free college courses. In addition, students can take college courses through the Advanced Placement program and CU Succeeds.
