Thousands lace up for 39th annual BolderBOULDER 10k

BOULDER, Colo. -- The BolderBOULDER started in 1979 as a small, local 10K race which has since grown to be one of the largest and most respected community running events in the world.

Denver7 is a proud sponsor of the race. If this is your first year participating, there are a few things you need to know:

The 39th BolderBOULDER

This is the 39th year for the BolderBOULDER and the event is expecting to see around 50,000 runners and about 70,000 spectators.

The race is always on Memorial Day 

The BolderBOULDER is always on Memorial Day, rain or shine. This year, the wheelchair race is the first wave, and will start starting at around 6:50 a.m., followed by the “A” wave at 6:55 a.m. From that time, to approximately 9:22 a.m., the other 100 waves will race. Check the wave start times schedule for details.

The International Team Challenge begins at 11:13 a.m. for women and 11:24 a.m. for men. The challenge will finish inside the stadium between 11:45 and 11:56 a.m.

A Memorial Day Tribute begins at Folsom Field at 12:00 p.m.

The BolderBOULDER claims this is the largest Memorial Day tribute with as many as 70,000 people attending. For more information about what you can expect to see during the Memorial Day Tribute, click here

You can still register

Online registration for the BolderBOULDER is over, but you can still register for the race in person between 5:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. Click here for in-person registration locations. 

This race is for everyone 

"Olympic medal winners and hopefuls, grandmothers and kids, running enthusiasts and one-race-a-year guests from all over the world come together at the foot of the Rocky Mountains to form one of the sport’s truly unique events," the official BolderBOULDER website states. 

Emma Coburn will be the official starter for the public race

Emma Coburn, a Colorado native and a U.S. Olympian, will be the official starter "for all citizen's races."
