LONGMONT, Colo. — Authorities are still working to positively identify a body that was found floating in Golden Ponds Park Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a park visitor found the body on the southeast side of the easternmost pond at about 6 p.m.

All police are saying is that the body was that of an adult male.

“It’s too early in the investigation to say whether there is foul play involved,” said Commander Joel Post of the Longmont Police Department.

When asked what kind of clothing the victim was wearing, Post replied, “I can’t give a description other than it was a male. That’s all I can give you on the person himself.”

Post said he had no idea how long the victim had been in the water.

Investigators retrieved the body from the pond Wednesday night. They returned to the scene Thursday morning to look for evidence that might help them identify the victim, or help answer questions about how he ended up in the water.

Those are questions other park users want answers to.

“It’s kind of shocking to find a body floating where you’re taking a walk,” said Longmont resident Edwin Lozada. “but there are a lot of transients that use this side of the park trail system for housing.”

“I wonder what happened,” said Gladys Velasquez. “How did he end up here?”

Several park users said they’re keeping a sharper focus on the water than they did before.

“I would never consciously be looking for a body, however, I scan and I look because we live in a beautiful place and when you’re walking around a lake, I think I would have noticed it. It’s something very out of the ordinary.”

The Boulder County Coroner and Longmont Police say they will likely have more information to release Friday afternoon.
