Summit County authorities launch investigation after body found at Vail Pass Rest Area

VAIL, Colo. — Authorities are investigating a death at the Vail Pass Rest Area Thursday.

Around 10:52 a.m., deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the rest area on a report of a dead body.

It’s not clear where at the rest area the body was found. Authorities have closed off the area while they process the scene.

Any additional information regarding the identity of the body and cause and manner of death will be released by the Coroner’s Office.

The rest area sits at the summit of Vail Pass and offers travelers on Interstate 70 restrooms and a picnic area.
