DENVER -- A local nonprofit, whose mission is to empower at-risk and disadvantaged youth, using bicycles as tools to foster positive life skills, is hosting a fundraising party Thursday.
Trips for Kids Denver Metro is an organization of cyclists, educators and community leaders who believe they can make a difference in the lives of children by opening their minds to new possibilities and arming them with greater self-esteem.
Thursday, TKDM is hosting its annual Lucky to Ride! Soiree at The Studios at Overland Court, 2205 S. Delaware Street.
The money raised helps fund the organization's Earn-a-Bike Program, Ride Program, Lucky Bikes Re-Cyclery and Youth@Work program.
Earn-a-Bike teaches kids basic bicycle maintenance skills and safe bicycling in their own urban neighborhoods. Kids learn life and leadership skills in a supportive, yet challenging environment. Graduates keep their bicycles and receive a helmet, lock and tool kit.
With the Ride Program, Trips for Kids partners with dozens of youth agencies in the Denver Metro area to provide fun-filled, day long and after school mountain bike and urban outings for small groups of children ages 10 and up.
Lucky Bikes Re-Cyclery is a nonprofit, community-centered bike shop that provides affordable, used bicycles to all, while training youth in retail sales and bicycle repair.
The Youth@Work program, which began in the Summer of 2015, provides high school youth with supervised, hands-on work experience at the full service bike shop.
The fundraising Soiree runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20.
It will include cuisine by All Love Catering, a open beer, wine and specialty cocktail bar, craft brews by Declaration Brewing, specialty cocktails by Bear Creek Distillery and live music by Donnie Guess and the Tom Toms.
It will also include four live auction offerings and a multitude of silent auction offerings.
