BOULDER, Colo. — An elementary school in Boulder brought all students inside after receiving a report of a bear in the area Wednesday afternoon.

Boulder Valley School District released an alert that Flatirons Elementary School was on lockout, meaning students involved in outdoor activities were brought inside. The school resumed normal operations at 12:30 p.m.

Randy Barber, direction of communications for the school district, said the bear was spotted near 9th Street and Pleasant Street. Bears are common in the area, he said.

Jason Clay with Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the bear ran north from the school around 12:30 p.m. Residents in that area — Boulder Creek and Boulder Canyon Drive — should remove all outdoor food sources.

Anybody who sees the bear should call 303-297-1192.
