KEENESBURG, Colo. -- A bear retired from a roadside zoo in Maryland recently arrived in Colorado. Lily the bear will now call The Wild Animal Sanctuary near Keenesburg its home.
Lily was born and spent most of her adult life at the Deer Haven Mini Zoo in Keymar, Md. The zoo decided to retire the bear from its exhibits after outcry from the animal rights group PETA.
PETA claims Lily lived in cramped quarters and was morbidly obese from lack of exercise.
The animal rights group posted a video of Lily showing her arrival at the Keenesburg sanctuary. She will soon be released to an even larger area at the sanctuary so she can roam and forage.
