DENVER — As the Avalanche prepare to take the ice for Game 4 of their Stanley Cup series against the San Jose Sharks, a local fan is faced with a question: which of his 50+ Avs jerseys should he wear?

“I have every variant of the Avalanche jersey that they’ve worn — home, away, alternate, period,” he said.

The collector, who chooses not use his name, told Denver7 that he has been collecting game-worn Avalanche jerseys for the last five years

“These are not replicas," he said. "These are Avalanche true game-worn jerseys."

The jerseys are hung on the wall of the fan’s basement, taking up an entire wall. But not all of them are in good condition, and that’s actually a good thing.

“The more wear, the nicer they are,” he explained, showing off holes and cuts in several of the jerseys in his collection.

That’s the unique part of the collection. On top of the history, many would argue that the important part of is where the jerseys come from.

“The auctions range from 5 to 7 days typically,” the superfan said.

Online auctions that are run by the team, with 100% of proceeds going to Kroenke Sports Charities, which provides "education, health and fitness initiatives, athletic programs, and direct aid" to the community," according to their mission statement.

“It definitely makes me happy knowing my money when I’m bidding it’s going to a good place like that,” he said.

What’s next for the collection? It’s the team’s current alternate jersey, not up for auction yet that the collector has plans to bid on and fill the last open space on his basement wall.
