Avalanche safety classes targeted at young
Posted

As more young adults hit the slopes to ski, snowboard or go hiking this winter, avalanche experts want to make sure they are being safe.

In the last 10 days, 10 people have died in avalanches. That’s just in the western states.

According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, this January has been the deadliest in nearly 20 years.

Now, the Northwest Avalanche Center, based in Seattle, is gearing a third of its avalanche awareness classes toward teenagers and young adults.

There are several free avalanche programs available in Colorado, Washington, Utah and Wyoming. To find some in your area, just click here.
