A 6-year-old boy who was found dead inside an Arapahoe County apartment early Wednesday was stabbed in the neck, according to the Arapahoe County coroner.

A spokesperson for the county coroner's office did not release the identity of the boy, citing his age and the "circumstances surrounding his death."

The discovery of the lifeless body was made after a woman called 911 from a neighbor's house to report she had been sexually assaulted at knife-point by her boyfriend. Police went to the apartment at 7540 East Harvard where the alleged assault happened. There, investigators say, officers found the boy, a man with self-inflicted knife wounds and a 2-year-old who was unharmed.

Neighbors told Denver7 they heard screams coming from the woman's apartment.

Detectives spent more than 10 hours collecting evidence from the home. Criminalists processed that evidence Wednesday.

Police have yet to make any arrests in this case.

The man is undergoing treatment for his wounds at the hospital. He is the father of both boys. The woman who reported the assault is the mother of the youngest child. She has been released from the hospital, according to an official with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors said the 6-year-old attended Holly Hills Elementary School. The Cherry Creek School District wouldn't confirm that he was a student there, but did say that Holly Hills will have counselors on hand Thursday.

An Arapahoe County deputy was hurt in a crash on his way to investigate this on Wednesday morning. At last update, the sheriff's office said Deputy Bill Foreman was in critical condition. Rescuers had to extricate Foreman from his patrol car.
