AURORA, Colo. -- The images of the historic flooding in Nebraska are devastating. Towns are underwater, and farms have been destroyed.

A local church, Peace with Christ Lutheran Church, held a donation drive Tuesday in the hopes of collecting enough supplies to fill truckloads headed for Nebraska on Friday.

Church members are asking for things to help the people affected to start the cleanup.

“When we heard what was happening with Nebraska, we really wanted to reach out and just extend our love and care for them,” said Donna Patton, a member of the congregation.

The group set up in the parking lot of the church with rows of boxes ready to fill with supplies from whoever would drive up.

“You know boundaries don’t matter. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Colorado, Nebraska, Texas. We are family, and we all work together,” said Patton.

It’s hitting home for some members of the congregation like Tammy French whose family lives in Nebraska.

“A little town close to where I’m from, a town of Winslow totally wiped out, covered in water,” said French.

Angie Bies saw the church's drive and brought supplies. She had just driven through Nebraska and saw the devastation firsthand on her way home from visiting family.

“There are houses underwater," said Bies. "There are cattle knee-deep in water, their bellies in water. Farms completely washed away. It’s a very sad, sad state of affairs."

She hopes people will see the need and do the same as she did.

“Give what you can give," she said. "Do what you can do. These people are great people, and they need everything that you can send their way."

Items can be donated through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peace With Christ Lutheran Church located at 3290 South Tower Road in Aurora.

Supplies needed: moving boxes, work gloves, mops, brooms, trash bags, first aid items, food (non-perishable), baby food, diapers, dog/cat food and snow shovels. They will not accept donations of water or clothing at this time.
