LOGAN COUNTY, Colo. – More help is on the way for the victims of recent wildfires in Logan and Phillips counties after several lost property and livestock.
On Thursday, the commissioners of both counties are opening a disaster action center, where victims of the fire will be able to talk with federal, state and local agencies about what they can do to recover financially and emotionally from the fires.
Logan County Emergency Management says anyone who was affected by or suffered a loss in the fire can attend.
The center will be open from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 16. It will be located at the Haxtun Community Center at 125 E Wilson St. in Haxtun.
And on Friday, there will be a free community barbecue to raise money for the affected families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bank of Colorado locations in Sterling and Holyoke.
Hot dogs will be served for free, but donations will be accepted as well. Bank of Colorado is partnering with the Miracle Letter Program for the barbecue. Bank of Colorado will match proceeds and donations up to $6,000.
The barbecues will be held at the Sterling Bank of Colorado location at 131 W. Main St., as well as at its Holyoke branch, which is located at 133 N. Interocean Ave.
The fire burned 32,563 acres over several days last week, destroying four buildings and hundreds of livestock.
