A violent felon is out on the streets again after he escaped from work release. Ronald Terrance Weber, 54, was serving a five year sentence of sex offender intensive supervision probation and one year in a work release program.
Weber failed to report back to work release just one week after his December sentencing in Jefferson County.
Denver7 reported on Weber back in September when he was arrested in an online child sex sting. He exchanged disturbing messages with a district attorney's office investigator who was posing as a 14-year-old girl. Weber sent explicit photos and expressed his desire to have sex with the pretend teen.
He was convicted of felony assault in 2011. In November 2014, Commerce City police arrested Weber on investigation of felony sexual assault. But there's no record of him being charged in that case. His criminal history also includes a probation violation, attempted murder charge, harassment, domestic violence and DUI.
A judge sentenced him in the sex sting case on December 7. One week later, on December 14, Weber left a facility for an appointment with a probation officer in Boulder and the Social Security office in Lakewood. He never checked back in and is considered an escapee.
“Why give somebody work release who is going to put their feet on the pavement and leave instead of taking responsibility for his actions," asked William Ellenburg, a local bounty hunter.
A spokesperson with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said a fugitive team attempted to locate Weber. His name has also been entered in state and nationwide databases.
