DENVER – Actress and entertainer Ann-Margret was honored in Denver Sunday with a lifetime achievement award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ local chapter.

The VFW Post 1, based in Denver, celebrated VFW’s 117th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War by honoring Ann-Margret, among others, at a banquet at the Brown Palace Sunday.

The singer-actress was honored with the 2016 Lifetime Appreciation and Achievement Award. She starred in “Bye Bye Birdie and Viva Las Vegas” and was nominated for the Academy Award for performances in “Carnal Knowledge” and “Tommy.”

She also went to Vietnam several times, performing on the Bob Hope Show and Johnny Rivers Show in the late 1960s and earning the respect and trust of many troops overseas.

She has continued her work with veterans since, continuing to perform and communicate with active-duty and veteran soldiers.

The Denver Post reports that one of the soldiers at Sunday’s celebration had held onto an old photo and card she signed for him back in Vietnam, and the two reminisced about the encounter Sunday.
