DENVER — An AMBER Alert has been activated in Colorado after police say a woman and her 1-year-old child were abducted from Commerce City Thursday morning at gunpoint.

Police say they believe the woman, identified as 26-year-old Samantha Adams, was taken from Commerce City at 11:30 a.m. by her ex-boyfriend, who is identified as 22-year-old Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez.

Officers say the woman and her child, identified as Zahid Adams, are believed to be in danger, as Venzor-Gonzalez is said to be armed and dangerous.

Venzor-Gonzalez is described as 5-foot-6, Hispanic, with black hair and brown eyes. He is said to be about 130 pounds and is wearing a black baseball cap.

According to Colorado court records, Venzor-Gonzales has active warrants out of both Arapahoe and Adams counties for failing to appear on second-degree burglary and driving under restraint charges from 2015.

He also has prior convictions for driving without a license in Adams and Denver counties, according to the court records.

Efforts are underway now to locate the woman and her child safely as police search the I-25 corridor. Police say they found the vehicle used in the abduction — which was reported to be a grey Honda sedan with the license plate EVQ-410 — despite earlier reports.

But just before 4 p.m., the car was found in Pueblo in the 1700 block of Cypress St., though neither Zahid, Samantha or Venzor-Gonzales were inside, the Adams County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Denver7.

Police say they pursued the vehicle into Pueblo but later found it abandoned at the Cypress Street address.

Colorado Springs affiliate KRDO sent photos of the vehicle where it was found abandoned.

A family member and a neighbor of Adams's both told Denver7 that a child was found tied up inside the Commerce City home where Adams and her daughter where abducted from. The home belongs to Samantha Adams's mother, according to the family member.

Anybody with information is asked to call 911 immediately. Those with questions about the amber alert can call 720-322-1313.
