AURORA, Colo. — An Air Force Major died Saturday after falling unresponsive during physical training the previous day on Buckley Air Force Base.
Air Force officials identified the Airman as Major Elgin "Rick" Ross, who was assigned to the Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center. Ross, 47, led the center's customer support services for 1.3 million Air Natual Guard, Air Force Reserve and retired Air Force members.
Ross spent 24 years serving in the Air Force, and according to Air Force officials he was devoted to his family, faith, friends and co-workers.
"We are heartbroken over the loss of our teammate and friend," Brig. Gen. Ellen Moore, APRC commander, said. "APRC is coming together in this sad time, and we are ensuring that Rick's wife and children are taken care of now and in the future."
An investigation into the cause of Ross' death are underway. Buckley Air Force Base members will host a memorial service at a later date.
