DENVER — At the exact moment Senator John McCain's body was laid to rest Sunday afternoon in Annapolis, Maryland, trumpeters and buglers played taps simultaneously in several different cities and towns across America to honor the American hero.

"This is a wonderful spot to reach a lot of people," said Army veteran Ed Schreiber, who played Taps on Denver’s 16th Street Mall Sunday.

A final farewell to McCain.

“This is all for John McCain," Schreiber said. “This might inspire people to appreciate the sacrifices of John McCain and his achievements."

The event marked the end of a week of ceremonies and goodbyes to McCain.

“I’ve probably played about 50-60 military funerals,” Schreiber said. “But this is special. It’s John McCain, so it's not standard. It's much bigger. I mean, like the biggest since perhaps JFK. This is a man that is worthy of all the admiration you can come up with. The greatest hero of recent times, no question.”
