DENVER – The biggest nerd fest to hit Colorado begins in just a couple of days. The Denver Comic Con gets underway Friday at the Denver Convention Center downtown.

The popular three-day event draws thousands each year and continues to grow. More than 100,000 people attended last year’s event.

This year, fans will need to take note of some new security changes as organizers try to make it easier for police and security to identify threats and keep attendees safe.

Here are seven things you need to know about Denver Comic Con:

1.Dates and hours of the Denver Comic Con
Denver Comic Con 2017 is June 30 – July 2 at the Colorado Convention Center.

2. Ticket prices
Friday (adult)  $38.50
Saturday (adult) $49.50
Sunday (adult)  $44.00

3. Buy tickets in advance

4. Realistic prop weapons banned
No realistic costume weapons will be allowed. Other props, such as plastic bats, swords and shields will still be allowed. Read the Cosplay and Prop Guidelines

5. New bag check policy
Fans bringing bags to the convention should give themselves extra time as organizers will begin screening bags. There will be two entry lines, one for people who have bags or props, and one for those who don’t. There will be multiple bag check lines. 

6. Main entrance has changed
The main entrance for single-day and three-day badge holders will be at the “Bellco Theater Entrance” on the SPEER BOULEVARD side of the Convention Center.

7. Weird Al Yankovic coming to Comic Con
The Grammy-award winning parody artist will be at the convention all three days for signings and photo ops. He will also participate in various panel programming.
