DENVER -- Independence Day is just around the corner and while celebrations will be a bit different this year, there's still plenty of ways to celebrate America's birthday. Below are some ideas to celebrate the Fourth of July responsibly.
1. The Colorado Symphony’s Independence Eve Concert and Fundraiser is going virtual! Independence Eve has established itself as Colorado’s largest single-day, free community event for over a decade. A focus of the program will be multi-faceted fundraising for select charities during the live broadcast on Denver7 and thedenverchannel.com at 7:00 p.m. with Anne Trujillo and Shannon Ogden serving as virtual emcees. The program will also stream the Colorado Symphony’s website and YouTube page on July 3 at 8 p.m. MST with a special Independence Day Replay on July 4 at 7:00 p.m. MST.
2. Wondering what 4th of July fireworks, festivals and parades are happening and which ones are canceled? We’ve put together a list of 10 firework shows that are still scheduled. Please note – in case of bad weather or other circumstances such as fire restrictions, some shows may be canceled. Be sure to check the event websites for updated information.
3. Catch a free 4th of July performance by The Denver Dolls, Denver’s beloved vintage trio, returns to Denver Union Station on Friday night from 5pm to 6:30pm and Saturday from 1pm to 2:30pm.
4. Parker Arts Drive-In Series is bringing concerts, trivia night and more to the PACE Center parking lot. This Friday, July 3rd, don’t miss a live performance from the 17thAvenue All-Stars. These National Acappella Champions bring their highly acclaimed, family friendly show to the drive-in series, featuring comedy, choreography and incredible vocals with tunes from the 50’s to present. The show runs from 8:30pm – 10pm and gates open 1 hour before the concert. Tickets are $30 per vehicle.
5. A river of beer flows through Colorado’s past. History Colorado’s exhibit, Beer Here! Brewing the West, explores Colorado’s brewing past, present and future. See beer-brewing equipment from then to now, a massive bottle-breaker from Prohibition days, the nation’s first aluminum beer cars and a wealth of other artifacts from the state’s hoppy history. 6. Avanti Presents: Summer Movie Series! Together with the Alamo Drafthouse Denver, Avanti F&B is hosting the Summer Movie Series all summer long. Join them every Thursday at 9pm for a reverse happy hour; bring your own lawn chair and their sponsors, New Belgium Brewing, will give you free beer! Special movie night menus provided by Lea Jane’s Hot Chicken and Meta Asian Kitchen.
7. Join the National Archives for its first-ever virtual July 4th celebration! For 50 years, the Archives has celebrated the founding of the United States that includes a traditional reading ceremony of the Declaration of Independence on the Museum steps. This year, the National Archives will lift the words of the Declaration of Independence off of its well-worn parchment and bring them to homes across the country online, while providing a host of educational activities for the whole family!
