DENVER -- The wet, heavy snow from Monday's storm snapped limbs and damaged branches across the metro area. It also caused power outages for more than 50,000 customers.
Before you try to clean-up the debris, here are the five things you need to know:
1. Property owners are responsible for clean-up: Any snapped limbs or fallen trees on private property are the owner's responsibility to remove in Denver. Homeowner's are also responsible for pruning needs on private property and from trees within the public right-of-way near their property.
2. Tips for removing snow from trees: Check to make sure the tree is safe and clear of all utility lines prior to removing any snow. Denver Parks and Recreation suggests using a broom to remove as much snow as possible from branches.
3. Regular trash disposal of tree branches: Denver Public Works said it collects a limited amount of branches as part of its regular trash collection service.
- Branches must be no larger than 4-inches in diameter
- Must be cut into lengths of 4 feet or less
- Bundled and tied, and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
4. Dumpster disposal of tree branches: customers can dispose of damaged branches in dumpsters, but must follow these guidelines.
- Customers may place up to 5 bundles of tied branches in the dumpster
- Or set up to 10 bundles in the alley on their scheduled pick-up
5. Recycle tree branches: Denver residents can also drop off branches at the Cherry Creek Recycling Drop-off location at Quebec and Cherry Creek Drive South:
- Tuesday – Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m
- Branches may not be left at other times.
