DENVER – Love it or hate it, Denver is one of the top moving destinations in the country for millennials.
Young people are flocking here to take advantage of the city’s low unemployment, great quality of life and booming food and beer scene.
If you’re new to Denver, you may be looking for the best neighborhood in which to enjoy all of what the Mile High City has to offer. For our list of top neighborhoods, we looked at things like proximity to nightlife, restaurants and things to do.
We also looked at the latest median rent data from Zumper to give you an idea of how much it costs to rent a 1-bedroom apartment in each area.
Here are five neighborhoods that are solid bets for young singles moving to Denver:
1. Capitol Hill
One of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods, Capitol Hill is also one of the city’s most popular with young people. Cap Hill is close to downtown and has plenty of great restaurants, bars and music venues where you can grab a bite or a drink with friends (and maybe make some new ones, wink wink).
Median 1BR rent: $1,150
2. RiNo/Five Points
River North, also called RiNo, and neighboring Five Points are probably Denver’s trendiest neighborhoods at the moment. What was once a largely industrial part of town has become a hotbed of restaurants, breweries and bars that draw crowds of young people on the weekends. RiNo is also ideal for anyone without a car, as it’s walking distance from downtown and Union Station.
Median 1BR rent: $1,590
3. Highland
Head west from RiNo and you’ll wind up in Highland, another trendy neighborhood that draws young people in droves. Whether you call it gentrification or growth, Highland is quickly becoming one of Denver’s priciest neighborhoods. Lower Highland – or LoHi – is home to Denver’s oldest continuously-operating bar, My Brother’s Bar, which legend has it was once a popular hangout spot for beat generation icon Neal Cassady.
Median 1BR rent: $1,575
4. Washington Park
Washington Park is a great, well-rounded neighborhood for young, single professionals. While it’s a little farther from the downtown core than the other neighborhoods on our list, it’s very walkable, has good public transportation and is home to plenty of neighborhood restaurants and bars. And who knows, you might just meet that special someone while hanging out at the park.
Median 1BR rent: $1,250
5. Cherry Creek
Just northeast of Wash Park is Cherry Creek. Perhaps best known for the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, the area is home to many other shops, restaurants and bars. The Cherry Creek trail runs right through the neighborhood, making it easy to go for a run or bike ride and new apartment buildings seem to be popping up all the time.
Median 1BR rent: $1,700
