Deputies are recommending charges against five students in a sexting investigation at Buena Vista High School as they investigate two more possible cases.

Sexting is the sending and receiving of text messages that are sexually explicit and may, or may not, include photos.

Investigators announced last week that the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was investigating possible sexting at Buena Vista Middle School and Buena Vista High School.

Thursday, the Sheriff's Office said the first case, "has now been referred to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges on 5 juvenile students of the school."

However, investigators said the investigation is not over.

"Since beginning this investigation, two more sexting cases have been reported at BVHS and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office is beginning to investigate these new cases," official said.

Last week, prosecutors in neighboring Fremont County said they wouldn't file charges against more than 100 students involved in sexting at schools in Canon City. Prosecutors said they found no evidence of coercion or bullying in Canon City, and no images were posted on the Internet.
