LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – A 4-year-old boy from Colorado Springs was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning more than a day after he was hospitalized after being found in a Fort Collins motel swimming pool Sunday night.

Larimer County deputies were called to the Rodeway Inn in the 3800 block of E. Mulberry Street in Fort Collins around 9:15 p.m. Sunday after callers reported the boy had been pulled from the motel’s pool and was unresponsive.

One of the child’s parents and a staff member at the motel were performing CPR when deputies and first responders arrived. The boy was driven to a nearby hospital before being flown to Children’s Hospital.

The boy was pronounced dead early Tuesday, around 2 a.m.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and identified the 4-year-old as Gabriel Ibarra of Colorado Springs. The family was visiting the Fort Collins area at the time, the sheriff's office said.

The coroner said his manner of death was an accident, caused by asphyxia due to drowning.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing, but have not released further details or said if anyone might face charges.

The office asks anyone with information about the incident to call at 970-416-1985 or to call Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
